A Week In: Jersey City

With a strong sense of community and a vibrant cultural scene, Jersey City residents have access to a wide variety of venues, events and specials year-round.

From broccoli to books to brunch, here's just one possible plan for spending a great week in the city known as "The Sixth Borough."

The Historic Downtown Farmers’ Market — The Grove PATH Plaza

Head to the Grove PATH Station to find aisles and aisles of tents filled with more than 25 local vendors hawking fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as baked goods and even fresh take-home meals. Runs from May to December from 4pm– 8pm every Monday and Thursday.

Storytime at the Library — 472 Jersey Avenue

Enjoy a relaxing, all-weather activity with the kids each Monday through Wednesday at the Jersey City Free Public Library’s Bonetti Children’s room at 11am. Don’t forget to check-out some special books to read at home on your way out!

Groove on Grove — The Grove PATH Plaza

Every Wednesday from spring though early fall, evening commuters are greeted with free outdoor concerts near the Grove Street PATH Plaza. In addition to enjoying the music, the community is invited to peruse booths from local vendors and artisans and even watch area kids demonstrate their kickboxing skills.

Trivia Night at Corkscrew Bar & Grill — 61 Congress Street

Geeks Who Drink hosts a very serious trivia showdown every Thursday at 8pm at Corkscrew Bar & Grill. Show up early to nab a table and be sure to recruit a team with a wide range of expertise. Prep for your best game by noshing on the venue's signature Screw Burger or Carolina Pork Sliders.

Happy Hour at Barcade — 163 Newark Avenue

Unwind from the long week with $2 off beer and well drinks, $5 house wines and some serious competition on the vintage arcade games you’ve been missing since childhood. Barcade Jersey City features the original Donkey Kong, Frogger, Tetris and The Empire Strikes Back, among dozens of others. Earn a high score and get listed on their website. Cha-ching!

Brunch at Skinner’s Loft — 146 Newark Avenue

Belly up to the bar for some pork belly and fried eggs or park yourself on the lovely rooftop deck for red velvet pancakes. Either way, you won’t regret indulging in one of Jersey City’s best brunches in the heart of historic downtown.
