Welcome to East Williamsburg: A Neighborhood Guide

If Williamsburg is the flashy older sibling, then East Williamsburg is its younger brother/sister who is, slowly but surely, learning the ropes.

This up-and-coming neighborhood offers an eclectic mix of longtime local haunts and trendy new spots, a diverse mix that has increasingly made it one of the most exciting places in all of NYC. For those looking to move to this northern Brooklyn nabe, we’ve collected a short list of our favorite hangouts. Enjoy!

Don Pedro (90 Manhattan Avenue)

Don Pedro has three of the key ingredients that define a classic bar: live music, cheap drinks, and skee-ball! This Mexican pub not only offers a calendar of upcoming shows, but they also serve up Bklyn Burro, aka some of the best burritos in Brooklyn. Pull up a stool, you’ll be staying a while.

Variety (368 Graham Avenue)

This well-known stop in the neighborhood was the first coffee shop around these parts to serve the now-popular Stumptown coffee and remains one of the best purveyors of cappuccinos and espressos around. Make this place your caffeination station.

Humboldt and Jackson (434 Humboldt Street)

With its delicious meats, cheeses, and small plates, this place is well worth a visit. The new American spot is a refurbished Italian catering hall made for live music, private parties, and all around great dining experiences. It hosts an array of special events like a Brooklyn Brewery night and a monthly brunch pop-up. It’s easy to see why everyone in the nabe is clamoring to get here.

Cooper Park (Maspeth Avenue)

Compared to the much larger McCarren Park in Williamsburg, East Williamsburg may seem lacking in greenery. But, have no fear, Cooper Park is a hidden gem. This lovely green space is tucked away in the northwestern corner of the neighborhood and is home to a dog run, a playground, and a beautiful variety of flowers.

The Garden Grill Coffee Shop (318 Graham Avenue)

Because everyone should know where the best diner is! Garden Grill has been around for a while; described on Yelp as “pre-hipster,” this old-time haunt is known for its Americana aesthetic and always reliable menu. We suggest every omelet they make, and the burgers are a slam-dunk too.
