Looking for a spooktacular time in the big city this Halloween? Well, read on grown-up guys and ghouls as we run down the top five All Hallows' Eve events for the 21-and-over crowd in and around the big city. It’s sure to be a boo-tiful time!

The New York Haunted Hayride

Back for its second year, this East River fright-fest will fill Randall’s Island with screams and shrieks as New Yorkers explore three haunted landscapes. The eponymous tractor-drawn hay wagon takes visitors on a tour through demons, monsters and – gasp! – demented clowns. The House of Shadows thrusts victims into a pitch-black maze, and Purgatory is a haunted village featuring the Theatre Macabre where attendees act out scenes from the world’s most well-known horror films. The $37 general admission ticket grants access to all three zones. The terror starts October 13 and runs through October 31. Event Link

Brooklyn Horror Film Festival

From October 12 – 14, venues across Brooklyn — including Videology Bar & Cinema and Spectacle — will feature such chilling titles as "We Are the Flesh" and "Child Eater." Festival selections include both shorts and feature-length films alongside a pop-up art show, a ghost storytelling competition and more. Tickets run $10 to $18 per event. Event Link

Stranger Things Theme Party

Tapping into the popularity of Netflix's most popular new show, Brooklyn's Lot 45 will host "Stranger Things" theme parties over three nights starting October 21. Explore Hawkins, Indiana and the "Upside Down" in your best 80s finery, play a round of Dungeons & Dragons, snack on Eggos and make like Eleven. Tickets packages run $20 to $60 on Eventbrite and a portion of the proceeds benefit New York and Philadelphia nonprofits.

Tickets to this fine affair for a good cause range from a slightly scary $500 to a truly frightening $75,000. Event Link
